# Setting preferences

> Switch Hiresweep between light and dark themes, change the app language, and set the language of a resume.

Preferences control how Hiresweep looks and which language its screens use. To open them, select **Settings** in the dashboard sidebar, then **Preferences** under **Account**. The **Appearance and language** card has two settings: **Theme** and **Language**.

Your choices are saved in this browser and apply across the app. On another browser or device, set them again.

## Theme

Choose **Light** or **Dark**. Hiresweep starts in Light. There is no option to follow your system setting.

The theme changes the app only. Your resumes keep their own colors, which you set in the builder.

## App language

Choose a language from the **Language** list. The page reloads in the new language.

Hiresweep offers 55 languages, including right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew and Persian), which flip the layout. Translations are still in progress, so some screens and messages may show in English.

## Quicker ways to switch

You don't have to open Settings:

- **Account menu.** Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar and use **Theme** (**Light** or **Dark**) or **Language**.
- **Command palette.** Press <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>K</kbd> (Mac) or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>K</kbd> (Windows and Linux), then choose **Change theme to…** or **Change language to…**. See [Using the command palette](https://docs.hiresweep.com/guides/using-the-command-palette).

## App language and resume language

The app language and a resume's language are separate settings.

- **App language** is the language of Hiresweep's buttons, menus and messages. It is the setting on this page.
- **Resume language** is the language of a resume's section headings, such as "Experience" or "Education". Set it per resume in the builder: **Design** tab → **Page** → **Language**. See [Designing your resume](https://docs.hiresweep.com/guides/designing-your-resume).

You might use Hiresweep in English and keep one resume in German and another in French.

<Note>
A new resume starts in your current app language. That includes resumes you import or duplicate, so check
**Language** in the **Page** group after duplicating a resume written in another language.
